Drone pilot finds “river of blood” outside Dallas meatpacking plant
Externalized costs are not capitalism. But score one for the drones that are about to start watching us all. Not like the satellites can't do it now. If you search Columbia Packing in google maps, you can find this quite easily. Look at the creek, you can clearly see the water turn blood red right after the (probably) illegal effluent pipe:

The proper way to deal with this would be to sue the company for damaging the waterways. If every company had to, because of the proper enforcement of property rights, carry pollution insurance then I believe we would see a lot less of this. Insurance companies would either charge high rates to cover risk or require periodic inspections. In either case, the cost of non-compliance would more likely cause the company to comply with pollution, health, life, safety, etc... regulations.
If "consumers" did their part, they would make it economically painful for companies that get caught like this. They would enforce a regional boycott. But as long as we have an apathetic uninvolved populace, we will get the government they deserve. The abusive nanny state.
